I just bought a '94 r-42 that looks to be in great shape. I have never owned a gleaner before or a rotary for that matter so I am new to this. The question I have is the accelerator roll sprockets make an extremely loud ringing noise when at full throttle. So loud it hurts to stand by the machine. The sprockets don't look worn. I tightened up the gap between the sprockets a little bit by adjusting the idler sprocket over but that didn't help. Is this amount of noise normal or is there something else going on? TIA.

If you have inspected the gears closely on the RH side of the machine you may want to take a look at the acc. roll gears on the LH side for wear and mesh. Have seen both excessive wear and not enough mesh in gears to send vibration though to RH side to give you the ringing noise you are talking about. If your acc. roll gears do need replaced, install the wider gears that are available to extend wear life. Hyper Harvest II

So it really isn't normal to make that much noise? I will check left hand side sprockets for play, if if there is quite a bit, I will replace with wide sprockets. This should stop noise on left hand side and possibly even the right? TIA Hyper Harvest.
