I have asked this on agtalk and would like a few more opinions. The feederhouse on my new to me '09 9770 w/ 350 hrs has a loud noise when running. It has the variable speed (not the powershift) feederhouse. It makes a noise when engaged that sounds like a cross between a big turbo whine and a wet finger around the lip of a wine glass- very shrill but even-toned. You can hear it in the cab also but it is loud outside. No rumble. No grinding noise.
Two mechanics from different dealerships have told me it's the result of the ribbed belt going over the middle idler. Ran it without the middle idler and it was quiet. Put on a different idler and the noise was back. So the noise is the belt - right?
Several trusted guys at New Ag Talk say its the upper variable speed sheave bearings, with utter certainty. I have rarely had bad advice from there and I am inclined to replace the bearings. Problem is bearings in the sheave are fairly expensive.
Does anyone here have any experience with this and a way I could be more certain (DTAC, etc)? If all else fails I will probably replace the bearings.
Does anyone but me have this noisy feederhouse belt scream like this?

I remember your post, I believe Lil Hoss responded by replacing brgs, I don't know anything about your machine, I would trust his judgement, Scott.
